Even if you don't know the rules of baseball, there's a good chance you'll be swept up in the excitement of a game in Japan. From synchronized cheering and team songs to passionate fans filling the stands, attending a baseball event is as much about the atmosphere as it is the action on the field. This summer, visitors to Fukuoka can experience that excitement even without heading to the stadium.

The Summer is for the Hawks! Tenjin Summer Festival runs from July 17th to August 23rd at Fureai Plaza, located on the west side of Fukuoka City Hall. The event combines the lively atmosphere of a traditional Japanese summer festival with the city's passion for the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks, one of Japan's most popular professional baseball teams.

The festival features all the classics you'd expect, including food stalls, festival games, Bon Odori dancing, Japanese taiko drum performances, and live music from local artists. Over 30 food vendors from across Kyushu will also be serving up regional specialties, making it a great place to sample local flavors.

The baseball connection comes to life through Hawks-themed decorations, including a specially designed yagura tower dressed in the team's colors and player banners that double as fun photo spots. On evenings when the Hawks play night games, visitors can also watch live public screenings on a giant outdoor screen, cheering alongside local fans while enjoying festival food and drinks.

Open nightly from 5:30 pm to 10:00 pm throughout the event period, the festival offers a unique opportunity to experience two beloved aspects of life in Fukuoka at once: the festive atmosphere of a summer matsuri and the city's unwavering support for its hometown baseball team. Whether you're a sports fan or simply curious about local culture, it's a memorable way to spend a summer evening.
