Peach-themed fun in Okayama

Summer evenings are some of the best times to experience Japan's festival culture, and visitors to Okayama will have the chance to soak up the atmosphere when the Ujo Summer Festival returns to the grounds of Okayama Castle this August.

Held over two evenings, the free event transforms the castle area with decorations inspired by this year's theme: peaches. Alongside the festival's popular goldfish-shaped ornaments, visitors can also look forward to new peach-shaped balloons, while the stage will be illuminated with peach lanterns that add to the festive setting after sunset.

Food is also part of the celebration, with stalls serving peach-themed dishes and drinks that pay tribute to Okayama's famous fruit. The prefecture is often associated with the legendary tale of Momotaro, or Peach Boy, making the theme a fitting choice for the annual festival.

Families will find plenty to enjoy, with traditional festival games, children's workshops, and the chance to receive complimentary admission tickets to Okayama Castle's main keep, available in limited numbers. Visitors may even spot a samurai troop roaming the venue, adding another touch of history to the celebrations.
