The annual Kappabashi Kitchenware Festival turns the famous kitchenware district into an even bigger shopping destination, with special sales, local food, entertainment, and plenty of opportunities to pick up Japanese cooking tools and tableware.
Located between Asakusa and Ueno, Kappabashi is known as one of Japan's largest specialist shopping districts for kitchen supplies. Around 130 stores take part in the festival, offering special deals through the event's "Kappa Market." It is a particularly good opportunity to look for high-quality Japanese knives, ceramics, cooking utensils, restaurant supplies, and other kitchen goods that can be difficult to find outside Japan.
The festival also includes a stamp rally, local specialty products, food trucks, and live performances. On the final day, the approximately 850-meter-long Kappabashi Kitchenware Street becomes a pedestrian-only zone, with performances from local school brass bands and Japanese drum groups adding to the atmosphere.
For visitors to Tokyo, the festival is a fun way to experience a different side of the city while picking up something genuinely useful to take home.
