A unique Japanese construction method called Kakezukuri (懸造) is sometimes used at temples that stand on steep slopes or rocky hillsides. To keep the floor horizontal, carpenters use a special technique to adjust the pillars under the floor. The most famous example is the platform of Kiyomizu-dera in Kyoto. In this series, we introduce some beautiful temple buildings that use the Kakezukuri method.
