Aside from the park’s magnificent floral displays, its 350 hectares, 200 of which are open to the public, preserve the diversity of the coastal landscape, giving visitors access to forests, grasslands, and dune areas. The spacious area is marked by a number of hiking and cycling trails, and the higher elevated areas offer views of the ocean. For a relaxed tour of the park, hop on the Seaside Train for a 40-minute ride around the perimeter of the central area. The park can become crowded during peak flower seasons, so after observing the blossoms, spend some time in the quieter parts of the park to appreciate the different sides of nature.
In addition to its natural beauty, Hitachi Seaside Park also features an amusement park complete with roller coasters, swing rides, golf, and much more. The ferris wheel in particular, which is 100 meters above sea level, offers lovely views of the ocean and surrounding park. Located nearby the amusement park is a BBQ area, where you can enjoy the outdoors and cook a delicious meal. For on the go energy, stop by one of the park’s numerous eateries, which sell light snacks and meals, cafe drinks, fast food, and dishes using local ingredients.

Autumn is another one of the park’s busiest times of year when the kochia plants’ leaves turn vibrant red. The red spherical bushes cover Miharashi Hill in a surreal display of color, perfect for welcoming in the new season. In October, you can also observe the park’s over two million pink cosmos; the orange variety can also be enjoyed in September.
Hitachi Seaside Park from Tokyo: Take the JR Joban Line from Nippori Station to Katsuta Station, which is about a 1 hour and 30 minutes ride. Then, take a bus from Bus Stop No. 2 bound for Kaihin Park West Entrance, which is a 15 to 20 minutes ride. During the spring and autumn peak seasons there is a special non-stop bus from the bus station to the park’s West Gate.
