Shopping for souvenirs is practically a vacation tradition, but finding products that meet specific dietary or lifestyle requirements isn't always straightforward when traveling overseas. A new shop in Tokyo's Asakusa district is hoping to make things a little easier for Muslim visitors to Japan.

SALAM OMIYAGE has opened with approximately 250 products, bringing together Japanese souvenirs, food, cosmetics, accessories, hijabs, and abayas under one roof. The selection is designed to give Muslim travelers more opportunities to enjoy Japanese shopping without having to spend hours checking individual products and stores.

One particularly useful feature is the inclusion of a dedicated prayer room, along with wudu facilities for ritual washing before prayer. Both are available to visitors, making the store more than simply somewhere to pick up gifts.

Its location in Asakusa is also worth mentioning. The neighborhood is one of Tokyo's most popular sightseeing areas, attracting visitors to Sensoji Temple, Nakamise Shopping Street, and the surrounding traditional shopping lanes. Having a specialist store in such a well-visited part of the city could be particularly convenient for travelers exploring the area.

Japan has been making efforts to improve its facilities and services for Muslim visitors, with halal-friendly dining options and prayer spaces becoming increasingly visible in major tourist destinations. SALAM OMIYAGE is another example of businesses recognizing that international travelers have different needs when it comes to shopping, dining, and everyday conveniences.
