As summer draws to a close, Tokyo Station will glow with the warm light of lanterns, colorful firework projections, and the atmosphere of a traditional Japanese festival.
From Friday, August 28, to Sunday, September 6, 2026, the Yoimichi Toro (Evening Lantern Festival) will transform the GranRoof Garden on the Yaesu side of Tokyo Station into a vibrant summer evening destination.
Running from 5pm to 11pm, the event is free to attend, making it an easy addition to a day spent exploring Tokyo Station City. With its impressive selection of shops, restaurants, cafes, and entertainment, the area is well worth exploring before settling in for an evening of lanterns and fireworks.
Highlights of the Yoimichi Toro festival (Evening Lantern Festival)
100 Lanterns
As evening falls, approximately 100 lanterns will illuminate the deck of the GranRoof Garden, creating a magical atmosphere above Tokyo Station. Each lantern features one of three designs inspired by traditional Japanese fireworks, bringing a little extra summer sparkle to the city.
The lanterns will be lit from 5pm to 11pm throughout the festival, from August 28 to September 6.
Firework Projection Mapping
You can enjoy the spectacle of summer fireworks without leaving the city, thanks to dynamic projection mapping across the GranRoof Grand Roof and Grand Staircase. Colorful firework visuals are paired with sound effects designed to evoke the atmosphere of a traditional summer evening.
Projection mapping runs from 6pm to 11pm throughout the festival.
Yaesu Lantern Walk
For an atmospheric way to explore the neighborhood, join the Yaesu Lantern Walk. On Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays during the festival, visitors can borrow handheld lanterns for free and take a leisurely stroll around the Yaesu area, enjoying the streets by lantern light.
Lantern rentals are available from 5pm to 9pm, with the final rental at 8:30pm.
Drinks & Snack Sets and Food Stalls
Make an evening of it with one of the special Drink & Snack sets available from four restaurants in Gransta Yaesu, the dining area of GranRoof Garden. Choose from Hitachino Brewing Tokyo Yaesu, VOLPUTAS OLIVEOIL DINING TOKYO, Osteria IL VIAGGIO, and feb’s coffee & TOKYO scone for a drink and snack to enjoy alongside the festival atmosphere.
On Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, weekend food stalls will also offer a selection of tasty dishes and refreshing drinks – perfect for a relaxed Japanese summer evening.

Tokyo Station sits at the heart of an area where different chapters of Tokyo’s history and culture meet. On one side is Yaesu, an area associated with the culture of Edo’s townspeople, while Marunouchi reflects the city’s samurai-era heritage. Today, Tokyo Station remains a landmark connecting different parts of the city, as well as a gateway between cultures, neighborhoods, and generations.
Yoimichi Toro was created with the desire to establish a summer tradition that brings people and communities together, much like the festivals of old. The event first took place in 2022 under the theme of “reviving the culture and scenery of Edo’s evening coolness and festivals that connect people.” The 2026 edition marks the fifth time the event has been held.
