Prayers to Kannon at Osu-Kannon

A different experience in Nagoya

Last saturday, I took a small 1 day trip to Nagoya, to do my usual shrine and temple seeing. In the Osu district I came across Osu-Kannon Temple, one of the most important Buddhist temples in Japan.

There, as I was entering, I heard some chanting. The temple's priests were praying to Kannon, reading through their sutras ecstatically, as if the rest of the world did not exist. It was a transcending experience to watch their ritual.
